It’s not the cost that counts…

Quite a few years ago I went to school with a fine drummer named Jeep MacNichol. Jeep is perhaps best know for his work with The Samples, but nowadays he’s doing his own thing as Mr. Anonymous. I hit Jeep up for some info on his gear, and he came back to me with some surprises.

His words reinforce the old truth that good sounds aren’t made by drums alone, but rather by drummers with chops who are recorded properly. It’s not the cost of the kit that counts, but the skill and knowledge that goes into playing it and recording it.

pics from my 2nd “Brando Tapes” trip to Kingston Jamaica

…just got back from Kingston and the trip/mission was successful…. No real catastrophies like my smoke freakout nightmare in January…other than getting locked in my room a few times because the door kept getting jammed. I recorded 4 more vocal tracks with Brando and they are SLAMMIN…and he sang another tune to me out in the parking lot on my last day that blew my mind…absolutely beautiful words and melody so NOW, I have to go back with one more groove for him. I love to tune in to unplanned magic so I’m PSYCHED!!! Here are some pics below…a couple from my room, one of the studio(Big Yard Studio), one of our tracking engineer “Jah Pynx” who was psyched about his new motorcyle, a couple of Brando hanging out, and one of my sticks and drum pad that i never leave home without ;)
